What happened before ?

I am running since almost 20 years regularily. Without visible talent, but with a lot of inspirations. Running at the beginning was much more for me than a hobby. It has given me power, improved a lot my self confidence and urge. Also it helped me to stop smoking (unfortunately I could not give up having some beer from time to time) and of course my physical condition grew from 'close to zero' to 'acceptable'.

After around 2 years I was able to run 8 KM, quickly afterwards 10 and 13 KM. "Will I ever be able to run 42KM " I asked myself and a dream was born. I registered for Berlin Marathon 2001 and prepared around 6 months for it. Many weeks I ran 6-7 times, and I included runs with up to 33 KM in every other week towards the end.

Preparing towards the objective "Berlin" was a huge motivation, and when it actually occured, a dream came true lasting 4:15 hours. Without any doubt, I will never forget this days.

Since than I ran a Marathon every year, (best one 2005 in Frankfurt 3:45h).

Last year I started cycling as well. Now I love both things, oftentimes having large problems deciding which one to do "now".

Sometimes I ride 100KM (more is not possible for me at present) and I went 2 times in the mountains of Switzerland and France for a one week training. Both were fantastic experiences, especially when I did the 'Stilfzer Joch' (2800 meters high) and some of the French hills (Col Du Galibier, Alpe 'd Huez, etc) together with my friend Uli.
I have a lot of respect for people going up those hills much much faster than I do, but I have no respect for people who are doping. Although another topic, I am sure that all really successful professionals are doping.

The decision

today I decided to aim for one more dream in terms of endurance sport. I want to 'climb the olymp' by doing a Triathlon, and I am looking at the 'roth challenge' as the arena.
I thought about this for many months now and I could not get it out of my head. After the sensational experience last year in the Triathlon relay challenge - where I did the marathon in my team, I want to go for the "real thing" now.

I will continue this blog until than, and I hope that I can make this dream real.

As mostly in life, it is only me who at the end is determining whether I succeed or not.
